About

MATCHUPEE was put on this earth to capture fleeting moments with his camera. After picking up a Nikon 3300 in the Fall of 2015 in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri Matthew immediately became committed to finding his own unique perspective. This came naturally and rapidly. Inspired by documentary and photo-journalistic style, Matt's portfolio spans a mix of street, portrait and architecture images. In Winter 2017, he was selected to be featured in an intimate art show celebrating the work of St. Louis-based photographers and artists at Anew in Grand Center.

The feedback he received from the public in his first art show was incredible. The overall takeaway was that his photos go beyond a pretty picture hanging on the wall and instead tell a story that that elicits deep emotion. Matt is proud to tell those stories. After many months training himself by everyday practice attending local parades, protests and other public events or simply introducing himself to new pockets of the city, the capability to capture human emotion in the purest sense has become a part of who he is.

Matthew spends his free time roaming the streets of St. Louis and beyond doing just that. Whether he's photographing the often ignored epidemic of homelessness in his hometown or two people very much in love enjoying a lazy Sunday afternoon downtown, there's no denying that he and his camera have become one and stand by, consciously awaiting the opportunity to capture the spirit of a single moment in time.

Peruse his gallery (@matchupee on Instagram) and you will see that the click of Matt's shutter button proves just how fascinating the world around us could be if we simply keep our eyes open. Matthew's soulful approach to the art of photography celebrates the beauty and the pain in the everyday, and his curiosity goes beyond the photo and delves into the want - no, the need - to find out what's behind it.

Matthew offers family and couples portraits, engagement sessions, wedding and event photography, product photography and more. Contact him here.
